Lament for the Great Action Film

Fast & Furious just raked in $71 million on its first weekend. And unfortunately, it seems that this is what we're left with. Remember the 90s? Unlike Randy the Ram, I happen to think the 90s didn't "fuckin' suck," at least when it came to quality action-thrillers.

Harrison Ford & Tommy Lee Jones in The Fugitive. Clint Eastwood and John Malcovich in In the Line of Fire. Harrison again in Air Force One. The latter might not have been the apex of cinema masterpieces, but it was entertaining, and most importantly featured leads who could act - and were not the cookie-cutter flavor of the month.

I don't know. Maybe I'm wrong. But let me ask you this - when was the last time you saw a great action flick with a middle-aged guy in a tweed coat and Tommy Lee Jones not wanting to get shot?
